Property and Pets

“Property & Pets”

The British are a pet-loving nation, and our team at Callaways has a variety of dogs amongst them – French Bulldogs, a Labrador, and a Great Dane.

Approximately 49% of UK adults own a pet:

  • 25% of UK adults have a cat (an estimated population of 11.1 million pet cats)
  • 24% of the UK adult population have a dog (an estimated population of 8.9 million pet dogs).

Clearly Tenants need properties that will accommodate them AND their pets.  These pets come in all sizes and varieties.  We have Tenants who own hamsters, snakes, guinea pigs, cats and dogs, and goats (I’m not kidding).

Before accepting a Tenant with pets, we suggest you

  • Meet the pet! Is it an elderly cat or a young puppy? Is it well-behaved, healthy and human friendly?
  • Ask for a previous Landlord’s reference on the Tenant and their pet’s behaviour
  • Make sure your property suits the pet – is there a garden, will the animal be OK to be left alone while its owner is working? Will it bark continuously or just when the door-bell rings, annoying other residents?
  • Make sure your head lease allows pets in properties

Tenancy Agreements & Pets

Since 1 June 2019, legislation has changed relating to pet deposits, and we’ve created this short video on the changes.
