Beach Hut Family Celebrations

International Day of Families

Celebrate At Your Beach Hut!

The International Day of Families falls on 15 May each year. It’s a United Nations initiative that has been an annual event since 1993 and aims to shine a light on the importance of family life and also the difficulties and challenges so many face.

As anyone who has a beach hut knows, everyday can be a family day when you’ve got access to such a wonderful invention! Even so, the weather is finally warming up a little and the evenings are definitely longer and lighter. That means this month is perfect for making the most of what your hut can offer to your family.  So, come on! Celebrate at your Beach Hut on International Day of Families…

Family time

As it’s right in the middle of the month The International Day of Families presents a great opportunity to celebrate May between the usual Bank Holiday weekends.

That means seafronts and beaches will be a bit quieter and being midweek this year too means that it’s a really good excuse to get together at the hut.

Aiming to highlight the importance of families as basic units of society the annual event gives a great reminder that reconnecting with family is always a lovely thing to do. Whether it’s meeting up with some you don’t see that often or even just setting quality time aside for those you’re with every day, the chance to make new memories is something to treasure – priceless.

All ages

One of the things that a beach hut magically does is bring people together in very subtle ways. If you decide to make it a food and drink occasion (and why not?) a family hut outing can mean having fun even when sharing chores. All ages can play a part, whether it’s setting a picnic table or doing a bit of tidying up afterwards.

Choosing what to eat and what drinks to have on hand can be a challenge in itself when families are concerned! Food allergies and dietary requirements need to be taken into account of course but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun. Rather than getting overloaded with creating different things for everyone to eat, remember that you’re supposed to be relaxing and enjoying the day too. Ask each person to bring one plate/serving of food with them or order a picnic hamper online and you’ll have a great selection of things to eat in no time.

Inclusive

The theme for this year’s International Day of Families is inclusivity and that’s something to bear in mind too. Of course it’s great to bring together members of your own family who might not see everyone that often, or might even be at risk of becoming a bit socially isolated for health, age or any number of other reasons.

But you can also take that thought a little further and include neighbours, friends or work colleagues who might just really benefit from sharing time with family, even if it’s yours and not theirs!
